Board Approves Modified Sandcastle Access Policies for Spring 2024 Implementation

In February 2023, after a year of consideration and community input, the Sandcastle User Group proposed comprehensive changes to Sandcastle access policies to reduce overcrowding, make complimentary access more equitable across the membership, and simplify access policies. The changes were approved by the board and went into effect in the spring of 2023. The board approved the policies with a commitment to review data (view 2023 statistics and surveyed feedback: pages 26-27) and reevaluate the policies in the fall of 2023. Again, the Sandcastle User Group aided in this review process and recommended several adjustments to the policies at the Jan. 8, 2024 board meeting (view the presentation).

At a community discussion in mid January, the board gathered additional feedback from members (view the meeting video). Following the community meeting, the board met on Jan. 23, 2024 to work through the input and data and developed their resolution, which was approved at the Monday, Feb. 5, 2024 board meeting.

Key modifications to Sandcastle policies include clarifying categories of Members and Guests, reducing the check-in age to 16, reintroducing unaccompanied guest access, adding access for guests to fitness classes and evening hours at the gym, and expanding Oceanview Adult Pool access. A chart below shows an overview of the core policies (view as a PDF). The modified policies will go into effect by April 14, 2023. 

The board has implemented an annual review of data to monitor and evaluate access policies.
