Weather Alert: Rip Currents, Coastal Flooding, High Surf

The National Weather Service reports a Hazardous Weather Outlook (learn more) for Kiawah due to a low-pressure system off of the coast of Florida.

Rip currents, high surf and tide levels are possible today through the weekend. Be cautious and avoid going into the water.

What to Do if You Get Caught in a Rip Current:

  • Stay calm
  • Float – or if you are a strong swimmer, swim parallel to the shore. Yell for help from those onshore.
  • If you see someone in distress, call the town’s Beach Patrol at 843-518-2280. If you have something that floats, push it towards the distressed person, but don’t attempt to rescue them yourself.
