Kiawah’s Very Own Swimming Champion

Kiawah Island has a new national champion on our island. Susan Francis, a Kiawah Island community member and Masters swimmer competed in the U.S. Masters Swimming Short Course National Championship on Sunday, July 25 in Greensboro, NC. Susan competed in the 50-yard butterfly and the 200-yard freestyle in the 60-70 age group. In her 200-yard freestyle race, Susan got her hand on the wall first at the 2:36.86 mark to earn herself a gold medal and to be able to call herself a national champion. Susan took sixth place in the 50-yard butterfly in 38.22.

Susan competes with the Palmetto Masters Swim Team, the largest USMS team in South Carolina. Susan has earned four relay All-American Honors during her time as a Masters swimmer. Watch Susan earn a national title in the 200-yard freestyle and earn sixth in the 50-yard butterfly.

When Susan isn’t in the pool earning national championship titles, you can find her on Kiawah Island as she and her husband, Andy are Kiawah Island Club and Governors Club members. If you happen to see this national champion swimmer around the island, be sure to give her a big congratulations!
