Kiawah Island Utility Applies for Rate Increase for 2022

Representatives from Kiawah Island Utility (KIU) presented to the KICA board of directors on Monday regarding the utility’s pending request for an increase in the rates of commercial and residential customers. During its presentation, representatives Craig Sorenson and Becky Dennis noted that the utility had last increased its rates in 2018 and has seen an increase in cost of service since that time. Proposed rate increases of 9% for residential customers and 8% for commercial customers were guided by a cost of service study requested by the SC Office of Regulatory Staff. If approved, the new rates would take effect in June of 2022.
