Our World is a complimentary educational lecture series that provides members with presentations by local experts on a wide variety of subjects. The Our World season launches at the end of September through April and all presentations are held on Thursdays at 3 p.m. at the Sandcastle.
What happens when an eminent historian and a distinguished civil rights lawyer team up to write a book? Well, you will find out when you attend the December 8th Our World Presentation at 3:00 at the Sandcastle. Both accomplished and sought after speakers, Vernon Burton and Armand Derfner will dialogue about their latest book entitled Justice Deferred. In this book, they trace cases tried before the Supreme Court of the United States between the years of 1857 and 1954 as these cases pertain to racial equality. Heather Cox Richardson says that in the book “Burton and Derfner demonstrate how the law both reflects society and shapes it.”
