Spring Weather Is Here and Our Boardwalks Are Ready for Your Enjoyment

The weather is warming and that can only mean more trips to the beach! KICA works hard each year to make your trip to the beach easy by consistently evaluating boardwalks for repairs and replacing them on a scheduled basis. Boardwalks are among the most frequently used amenities on the island, according to our biennial member surveys, and our maintenance and Major Repairs teams strive to ensure the walkways are up to the challenge through sun, rain and storm events.

2024 Boardwalk Replacement

KICA has four boardwalks scheduled for replacement in 2024. Construction at Boardwalk 14 (at Eugenia and Sea Lavender Court) is anticipated to be completed on Friday, April 12. Boardwalk 16 (Mariner’s Watch) and 9 (Eugenia Ave.) are currently closed and work has just begun. Boardwalks 14 and 16 have been inundated by accreting sand, and are being updated with a new design to allow for better beach access on the reshapen terrain. Construction of boardwalk 32 (KICA’s most-used boardwalk) will begin in the coming weeks.

Showers Make Sandy Footprints a Thing of the Past

In 2023 and 2024, KICA made shower additions to most boardwalks that weren’t already outfitted with a spray station. In 2024, showers have been added to 29, 30, 31, 33, and 34. This simple addition is intended to make life a little easier once your fun is done for the day. Rinse off that beach gear, little ones, or sandy paws before heading back home!

While the shower was being installed at Boardwalk 29 (at Atlantic Beach Court), the team also replaced the wooden walkway between two sections of the Turtle Point Golf Course cart path.

Let Us Know About Your Experience

KICA evaluates boardwalks regularly throughout the year, as well as following storm events that might impact member usage. While KICA plans proactively for infrastructure maintenance, if you ever see an issue, let us know. The Member Services team is available at 843-768-9194 and there’s also a Report an Issue form in your member account (kica.us/login), which routes the issue directly to the appropriate contact.
