Boating on the Island

Kiawah is well known for its hidden places and secret spots. It’s part of the charm of being on the island. However, some things aren’t meant to be hidden, like the boating amenities that all members can use as part of their KICA membership.

KICA’s has three boating facilities on the island, open for all members to use. Stop by to enjoy a view of the water, launch a boat, kayak or paddleboard, or cast a rod. If you bring guests with you to a member launch, please remain with them. Unaccompanied guests are not permitted at member launches. Swimming is also not permitted.

Boats must be registered with KICA before launching (scroll to bottom to see details). Overnight docking and boat trailer parking is prohibited at KICA facilities.

Rhett’s Bluff Boat Launch and Picnic Pavilion

102 RHETT’S BLUFF ROAD

KICA members are invited to launch their boat, kayak or paddleboard at Rhett’s Bluff on the Kiawah River. Rhett’s Bluff features two docks, a picnic pavilion, restrooms and daytime parking for vehicles and trailers. This boat launch is for boats up to 30 feet, including trailer length. The entrance to Rhett’s Bluff is gated; the arm will open with a member vehicle decal.

Cinder Creek Pavilion and Paddlesports Launch

36 BLUE HERON POND RD

Cinder Creek is in the Preserve neighborhood and features a pavilion for small gatherings and events (it can be rented!), restrooms and a dock with a launch platform for paddle sports like kayaks, canoes and paddleboards. Kayak storage is also offered, but spaces are currently full and on a waitlist (contact [email protected] or 843-768-3875 for details).

Eagle Point Boat Launch

222 EAGLE POINT ROAD

Eagle Point is a boat launch on Bass Creek (in the Preserve neighborhood) that is ideal for small boats, kayaks and paddleboards. A convenient and safe kayak launch was added in late 2023. Vehicle and trailer parking are available, but overnight parking is prohibited. This launch is for boats up to 18 feet, including the length of the trailer.

Boats are Required to Be Registered with KICA

To launch your boat from a KICA facility, you will need a daily launch pass or permanent launch decal. Stop by our recreation headquarters at the Sandcastle (1 Shipwatch Road), or reach out to our team at 843-768-3875 or [email protected].

  • Daily launch pass
    • Cost $15 per day
    • This is charged to the member account and may be purchased in advance of the day you plan to use it.
    • The pass may be picked up at the Sandcastle.
  • Launch decals for everyday use
    • Cost $200 per boat, for the lifetime of the boat, with signed contract and copy of marine registration.
    • The contract may be emailed and decals (boat and trailer) picked up at the Sandcastle.

Boat and Kayak Excursions

If you don’t have a boat, kayak or paddleboard, don’t worry. You can still experience Kiawah from the water with a trip through Tidal Trails. KICA is exclusively contracted with Tidal Trails for outdoor experiences.
