Road Work on the Parkway Begins Week of Jan. 17

Feb. 2 UPDATE

The project to raise the Kiawah Island Parkway in this location is now complete. Some site work, including landscaping and irrigation, may continue through the first week of February during commercial access hours.

The week of Jan. 17, work will begin to raise 450 feet of the Kiawah Island Parkway (Project 3) at the intersection of Green Dolphin Way (in between the Sanctuary and the Vanderhorst Gate). At this location, the road dips and holds water with heavy rainfall, creating a potential hazard for traffic in a location where there is no possible detour. Raising the road will properly route water to the storm drains, keeping the road open to both lanes of traffic in a rainstorm.

This work will be conducted at night (Monday-Friday | 6 p.m.- 7 a.m.) to minimize traffic disruptions, but members immediately adjacent to the project may experience disturbances from noise and project lighting. This work is expected to take two weeks. During this time, one lane will be closed on the Kiawah Island Parkway and flaggers will be onsite to direct traffic. Please use caution in this area and expect brief delays.
