Welcome to the Crystal Coast

The Sandcastle Bar and Grille has some new residents this year – starting Memorial Day weekend, brothers Jon and Brian Williams of Crystal Coast will be serving up some delicious bites. They will be joined behind the bar by Matthew Miller of Johns Island’s Seanachai Whiskey and Cocktail Bar, working in tandem to bring the flavors of Emerald Isle right to the Sandcastle. Everything on their menu is house-made with quality local ingredients. 

 

THE FOOD

Inspired by the flavors of their hometown, Brian and Jon are excited to introduce you all to their spin on coastal eats this summer. There’s something for everyone and it all looks delicious! We got a sneak peek this week and wanted to share: 

Not only does the food look great, but a large portion of it is sourced from right here in the Lowcountry. That’s right! Farm-to-table has become more like farm-to-poolside with menus featuring seafood from Cherry Point and produce from nearby growers. 

Crystal Coast is also a platinum partner in the SC Aquarium’s Good Catch Program, meaning that they are committed to serving at least one third of their seafood from local, sustainable sources and follow plastic reduction guidelines. There are only 17 Charleston-area restaurants, including Husk and Chez Nous, with this level of commitment to local and sustainable seafood. 

Also new to the Grille this year: Crystal Coast will be running weekly dinner specials on Island Nights. Stop by to try out unique dinner specials each week (available while supplies last) and relax by the poolside with music from Nick Kelley on the steel drums. There really is no better way to spend your Wednesday nights! 

 

SERVICE + MENUS

Good news: ordering food from the Sandcastle Grille will be the same as last year. Scan the QR codes on our menus or click here to place your order through Toast. Your food will be ready at the Grille window for pickup. Tip: download the Toast app and enable notifications to get a head’s up when your food comes out.

Even better news: we now have extended food service through the bar along with drinks! This means that after the Grille closes you can order from our light bites menu at the bar from 4-7 p.m.

ABOUT: CRYSTAL COAST 

The Williams brothers, Brian and Jon, grew up along the Crystal Coast of North Carolina exposed to the abundant seafood and farm resources of the region. They began working in restaurants as teenagers and haven’t looked back since. Together, they have almost combined 50 years working in the hospitality industry.

Eventually, that love of food brought them to the Charleston area where they worked around town for a few years until deciding it was time to create a business of their own. Their goal of providing delicious, affordable, creative food based upon classics they grew up with led to the creation of Crystal Coast Seafood.

 

ABOUT: MATTHEW MILLER 

A bartender for more than a third of his life, Matthew Miller has made cocktails on the beach in Saint Croix, served fine spirits at The Rainier Club in Seattle, and worked elbow to elbow with some of Charleston’s best at Sermet’s Courtyard and The Establishment.

He can still be found in the evening pouring drinks at Seanachai Whiskey and Cocktail Bar on Johns Island. At Seanachai, he serves as the creative director for the cocktail menu and is known for his inventive and interesting drinks.
