Strong Winds Forecast Today: Tuesday, Jan. 9

A strong storm system will impact Kiawah Island this afternoon. The most severe threat is high wind. Yesterday’s forecast reported gusts of up to 75mph, but today’s 9 a.m. forecast from the Charleston branch of the National Weather Service reported less severe wind speeds:

  • 10 a.m. – 28 mph sustained winds | 39 mph gusts
  • 1 p.m. – 36 mph sustained winds | 49 mph gusts
  • 7 p.m. – 29 mph sustained winds | 43 mph gusts
  • 10 p.m. – 20 mph sustained winds | 29 mph gusts

Rain has started on Kiawah as of 10 a.m. The rain band is expected to blow through by 8 p.m.

KIAWAH CLOSURES ON TUESDAY, JAN. 9

Kiawah Island Community Association: The community association will close the Sandcastle and Beachwalker Center offices on Tuesday at 12 p.m.

Town of Kiawah Island: The town’s municipal center will close at 12 p.m. The Ways and Means Committee meeting and Town Council meeting scheduled for tomorrow have been rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 10. See more information on the town’s website.

Kiawah Island Golf Resort: There will be no golf tee times after 10 a.m. Tennis will close at 2 p.m. All clubhouse dining is closed. The Nest is open from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. with only grocery and grab-and-go available after 2 p.m.
