Date of Record Marks 2024 Board Voter Eligibility
Monday, Dec. 11 marks the Date of Record for the upcoming board of directors election. To vote in the January election, you must be a registered property owner in good standing by this date.
On Monday, staff will pull the database of primary contacts for each managing household, along with the number of votes each household receives. It will then be provided to KICA’s third-party vote processor, Vote-Now, in advance of the month-long election.
Seven of your fellow neighbors are running for election to fill three KICA board seats. On Jan. 15, each Kiawah Island property will receive one ballot from Vote-Now, provided to the primary contact of the managing household.
SERVICE TERMS
Of the three open director seats, two seats will serve a three-year term (2024-2027) and one seat will serve a two-year term (2024-2026). The two board candidates receiving the greatest number of votes in the election will serve three-year terms. The board candidate with the third highest number of votes will serve a two-year term.
Due to ambiguity in the by-laws, the KICA board met with their legal counsel on Oct. 20 and passed a board resolution related to filling the seats, which is only applicable to the 2024 director election. The vote was 5-2, with directors DeStefano & Fernandez voting nay. Here is the board’s resolution.
Terms will begin at the Annual Meeting in March 2024, when Alex Fernandez, Jerry McGee and Beth Zampino complete their terms of service.
