Coastal Flooding Due to King Tide and Heavy Rainfall

3 P.M. UPDATE

The Sandcastle will close today, April 11, at 4:30 p.m. to allow staff to travel home safely. The Sandcastle will re-open tomorrow at 7 a.m.

1 P.M. UPDATE

The detours are no longer in effect. One lane of traffic is closed on the Kiawah Island Parkway, between Sora Rail Road and Fire Station 4, and KICA Security is onsite directing traffic.

11 A.M. UPDATE

KICA’s Security Department is setting up detours around flooded areas on the Kiawah Island Parkway. Please follow signage and use caution if you’re driving on the island.

9:30 A.M. UPDATE

The island is experiencing heavy rainfall and a high king tide is expected around 11 a.m. Several roads already have standing water due to the rainfall and some coastal flooding is expected. As you navigate the island today, please be cautious and drive slowly.

Today, the National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the Charleston coastline area. Strong thunderstorms are expected from mid-morning into the afternoon. There is potential for damaging winds and heavy rainfall. A minor flooding advisory and high surf advisory are in effect.

KICA’s teams are actively working to facilitate road drainage. After the high tide, the drainage systems will be opened fully to maximize drainage outflow.
