Our World Presents Saving Heritage With Archaeology

Thursday, Jan 27, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

This edition of Our World will be held over Zoom. There’s no sign up; just click this link Jan. 27 at 3 p.m. to attend.

On Thursday, Jan. 27 at 3 p.m., Our World presents Meg Gaillard, an archeologist with the SC Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) and the co-founder of the North American Heritage at Risk Research Collective.

Meg and her team of volunteers have quite a story to share. They are excavating and studying the 4,300 year old shell rings located on Botany Bay Plantation, just down the coast from Kiawah Island. The rings, on the windward side of Pockoy Island, are under threat from the tides and sand erosion on the island. There is no time to waste.

Who/what created the shell rings? What was their purpose? What do they tell us about our past? How can the Kiawah community get involved? Learn more at this event!
