Columbia City Ballet – Motown Ballet

Motown Ballet is a multimedia world premiere inspired by the musical legends of the ’60s and ’70s. This mixed repertoire evening will blend a variety of dance genres such as jazz, hip hop, modern, contemporary, and classical ballet. Under the musical direction of the S.C. Jazz ambassador, Mark Rapp, this production will be accompanied by live music performed by Rod Foster & Company.
William Starrett’s original motivation was inspired by the Columbia City Ballet’s mission of diversity and inclusion. No matter your background, we can come together to love and embrace the fantastic, inspiring music of Motown. Motivated by the messages of joy, the rhythms, and the exuberance of the exceptional Motown artists, the sounds of rejoicing is a sure-fire way to move the audience into elation. Let’s celebrate together this remarkable era of creativity and brilliance through dance and music.
Since Columbia City Ballet’s founding in 1961, the organization has had a heavy influence on the region. Throughout the years, the Columbia City Ballet has grown its total number of major performances to more than 80 per year, reaching an exponentially wide audience.
Under the leadership of Artistic & Executive Director William Starrett, Columbia City Ballet produces what critics have described as “some of the highest quality cultural entertainment in the Southeast.” On top of attracting a regional audience, the Columbia City Ballet is home to many talented artists who are eager to be a part of the accomplished and versatile company.
