Memorial Day Weekend Roundup 

Holiday weekends are always a bit busier on the island and Memorial Day weekend this year was no exception. Our KICA Security and Sandcastle teams worked tirelessly to provide the membership with a wonderful holiday experience. Shannon White shared some statistics about the holiday in her COO report at the June 3 Board of Directors meeting. 

Our security team welcomed over 41,700 vehicles through the Main Gate from Thursday, May 23 through Monday, May 27. Just over half of those vehicles also traveled through the V-Gate. The busiest day for island traffic was Friday, May 24 with over 12,000 vehicles through the Main Gate. Overall, the volume of traffic was 10% higher than we saw on Memorial Day weekend in 2023. 

The Sandcastle had a buzzing weekend as well! On Friday, May 24 they had 392 check-ins at their front desk, followed by over 700 check-ins on Saturday and Sunday. Our newest residents at the Sandcastle, Crystal Coast, were serving up delicious bites – and they totaled over $11,000 in sales. Sandcastle Grille orders peaked at around 1 p.m. over the weekend.
