The Results of Two Recent KICA Member Pulse Polls

At Monday’s board meeting, the results of two recent member pulse polls were shared with the community: The Amenities Task Force’s pulse poll on new or upgraded amenities (May 2022) and the Board of Directors’ pulse poll on island issues and development (August 2022).

Out of eight potential amenities improvements or additions from May’s amenities pulse poll, the community’s clear preference was to elevate the overall standard of maintenance for our leisure trails. Out of nine island issues the board requested feedback on in August, the community ranked reducing traffic congestion, minimizing the impact of development on wildlife and the environment and minimizing the overcrowding of amenities as the highest priorities.

Out of eight potential amenities improvements or additions from May’s amenities pulse poll, the community’s clear preference was to elevate the overall standard of maintenance for our leisure trails. This means that going forward, leisure trails would be maintained at the engineering standard of “good” or “excellent,” the same as our roads. The Amenities Task Force has recommended for the board to implement all eight of the potential amenities improvements or additions, or a variation of the polled projects, but project approval, details and an execution timeline has yet to be determined.

The Eight Projects Recommended by the Amenities Task Force:

  1. Raise the Standard of Maintenance for Leisure Trails
  2. Smooth Leisure Trail Transition Points in East Beach
  3. Widening a Portion of the Flyway Drive Leisure Trail
  4. Adding a Leisure Trail to a Portion of Surfsong Road
Due to the complexities of adding a leisure trail, the task force is now suggesting adding a bike lane to the road.
  5. Add Rinse Stations to KICA’s Most-Used Boardwalks
  6. Improve Handicap Accessibility at Rhett’s Bluff Boat Landing
  7. New Paddle Sports Storage at Eagle Point Boat Landing
  8. New Restrooms at Eagle Point Boat Landing
