Meet KICA Board Director Cherie Gallagher

The statements below were provided by Cherie for the 2024 election.
Vision & Objectives for KICA
I would like to promote a feeling of community for all property owners on Kiawah by ensuring the beauty, safety, financial stability and social/recreational opportunities on our island.
Professional Background
I graduated from Ohio Northern University and The University of Akron School of Law. I’m a member of the Ohio Bar Association (inactive). For 13 years, I practiced insurance defense for State Farm Insurance, and was a professional mediator for over 20 years. Currently, I’m a realtor and I teach water aerobics.
Community Leadership
I served on the KICA Amenities Task Force in 2022, and have been attending meetings of the KICA Board and the Town Council for a long time. I keep up with the issues facing our community and learn as much as I can through additional research and in-depth discussions. My background as an attorney and mediator will enhance my value to the board.
2024 Update: Cherie is leading the newly-formed Amenities Experience Committee and is co-chair of the Board Outreach and Education Committee for 2024-2025.
Key Issues I Hope to Address on the Board
Property owners on Kiawah have high standards – we’ve worked very hard for the opportunity to be here, and we expect the best. Our community is facing several unique transitions necessitated by increased population, traffic, wildlife endangerment, stress on amenities, flooding, and Governance/ARB issues. The KICA Board will need to provide its members with exceptional leadership through these issues, and that Board must be functional, respectful, open and cooperative. My extensive training and experience in Conflict Resolution and Mediation required patience, compromise and communication – skills needed for success in this position. Members deserve leaders who are devoted to keeping Kiawah Island the paradise we all enjoy and love.
