Busy Memorial Day Holiday Shows in May Security Report

May is always a busy time for KICA’s Security Department and this year was no exception. On average, just over 7,000 vehicles entered the island each day in May. This is a decrease from May 2023, but an increase over the previous month.

From Thursday, May 23 through Monday, May 27, the Security team welcomed over 41,700 vehicles through the Main Gate, 18% of May’s total Main Gate traffic volume. Just over half of those vehicles also traveled through the V-Gate. The busiest day for island traffic was Friday, May 24 with over 12,000 vehicles through the Main Gate. Overall, the volume of traffic was 10% higher than we saw on Memorial Day weekend in 2023.

There were a total of 282 violations reported during May. Parking remained the top violation; see parking rules here to help you avoid a ticket.

Other violations that increased in May were related to commercial activity on the island, including 19 for violations of Kiawah’s commercial work hours and 23 for parking a trailer at a residence. If you have contractors working at your property, share this information to help them avoid a violation.
