Tropical Storm Debby
Updated: Friday, Aug. 9 at 12:10 p.m.
After several days of impacts from Tropical Storm Debby, the storm has moved out of the area. Since Saturday, Kiawah received approximately 10 inches of rain. Kiawah experienced the most severe weather Monday evening into Tuesday morning, including a confirmed tornado.
The town conducted an assessment of private property damage. Four properties had minor damage visible from the road and the owners were contacted.
Kiawah’s roads, boardwalks, and trails did not incur any major damage. One lane of the Kiawah Island Parkway near Sora Rail Road will require repaving in the coming weeks. The road was patched yesterday as a temporary solution until the full repair can be made.
Debris and large puddles are prevalent. Cleanup on roads, trails, and common property land is underway. Use caution when you navigate the island. Cleanup work will continue this weekend and into next week.
Pond water levels have returned to normal levels. Several ponds experienced fish kills due to the extreme variation in water levels and temperature changes with rainfall.
Many community entities and local businesses have resumed normal or modified operations.
