The “Queen of the Castle” to Retire in 2021

It is with mixed emotions that we announce that Kay Narmour, Director of Recreation, has indicated her plans to retire from KICA, effective March 31, 2021. Kay is a long-time KICA employee of 23 years, having come to KICA in August 1997, when she started part-time in Sandcastle member services. Through her hard work and dedication to both The Sandcastle and our members, she was later promoted to Director of Recreation, and has been “Queen of the Castle” ever since …

Kay has led the Sandcastle through multiple renovations and expanded the social, wellness, fitness and educational programming for our members. Shannon White, Director of Operations, stated, “I have had the pleasure of working with Kay for many years. Kay and The Sandcastle are often synonymous, as she has led this facility successfully for so many years. There is nothing about today’s Sandcastle that she has not had a hand in improving. In everything, Kay is a model of southern grace, hospitality & care. She will be deeply missed by members & staff alike.”

While we are sad to see Kay go, we’re happy that she’ll have more time to travel and spend time with her family. Sometime next year when it is safe to gather, we’ll host a celebration in her honor. In the meantime, we encourage you to offer your well wishes when visiting the Sandcastle.
