The Annual Kiawah Island Triathlon Returns Sunday, Oct. 6
The annual Kiawah Island Triathlon is approaching on Sunday, Oct. 6. You can expect hundreds of triathletes and intermittent traffic delays throughout the Kiawah Island. The race begins near the West Beach Conference Center at 7:30 a.m. Triathletes will start with an almost one-mile swim in the Atlantic to Boardwalk 18 at Night Heron Park. From there they bike 25 miles, then finish with a six-mile run. See a map of the 2024 route (below and here) and plan ahead if you’re planning to drive (perhaps to church or brunch) or use the trails on Sunday, Oct. 6.
Deputies and race volunteers will be at all major intersections assisting with traffic control. Please use extreme caution while driving on the island on race morning, giving bikers and runners the right of way.
Please note these particular areas of impact:
- Sea Forest Drive (just the portion near Night Heron Park) will be closed Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. until Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. All other roads will remain open to traffic.
- No vehicle access or parking at Night Heron Park or the Nest Market and Café race morning, Oct. 6 from approximately 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m.
- Deputies will be on site at the intersection of Kiawah Island Parkway, Sea Marsh Drive and Surfwatch Drive (West Beach) between the hours of 8:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. As bikers cross this intersection, please follow deputies’ instructions and be prepared for intermittent traffic delays.
