Revised Sandcastle Health and Safety Protocols
Due to recent changes to guidance by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the lifting of state and local COVID-19 restrictions by South Carolina’s governor, and with guidance from the Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) Back2Business program, the association has adjusted health and safety protocols at The Sandcastle.
On May 13, The Sandcastle adopted an optional face covering policy; however, the CDC encourages those who aren’t vaccinated to wear masks in indoor settings. Effective Friday, May 28, KICA will increase occupancy at The Sandcastle’s pools and gym. The Oceanview Pool occupancy is increasing from 54 to 70 people per session and the Family Pool increasing from 123 to 170 per session. At this time, the reservation system for all activities will remain in place. Members and their lineal family members are welcome at the pools and gym, but the amenities will remain closed to guests.
MUSC Advises Association on Changes in Effect Friday, May 28
In South Carolina, approximately 40% of the population has been fully vaccinated. Although Kiawah’s vaccination rate may be higher, member families from around the world with varying vaccination rates will be visiting The Sandcastle this summer, so KICA is initiating a paced return to normal activities. The following facility operation protocols have been developed in partnership with MUSC and an advising member physician. MUSC emphasizes that important areas of focus continue to be maintaining six feet of physical distance between separate households and reducing crowd size. These will be particularly important with the upcoming Memorial Day holiday.
In order to accommodate all members and lineal members, please limit reservation sessions for the pools and gym to one session per day. The Sandcastle’s occupancy for both pools will be raised to 47% for all reservation sessions, opening 720 reservations per day. Pool chairs and shared surfaces will continue to be sanitized daily. The gym weight and cardio room occupancy will be raised to 34 reservations per day, and fitness classes will be raised to 20 reservations per class. The weight and cardio room will continue to be fully sanitized in between sessions.
The association strives to provide a safe environment for our members and welcomes any questions about our facility protocols to [email protected].
Sandcastle Activity Reservations Using CourtReserve
Members are currently required to make a reservation using an online system called CourtReserve to use Sandcastle amenities including the pools, fitness classes, and gym. To get started, watch this tutorial and then create your own reservation account here. Set up your account by adding your information and your family members under My Profile. This will allow you to make a reservation for more than just yourself. (Guests are currently not permitted due to reduced capacities.) Once your account setup is complete, visit the Calendar tab to view upcoming events and reservation sessions. Reservations open 48 hours in advance. Click the session you’d like to attend and register. Remember, if your plans change, please cancel your reservation so that a waitlisted member may have the chance to attend.
