Pledge to Protect Our Bobcats – Help Us Eliminate SGA Rodenticides on Kiawah

Second-generation anticoagulants (SGAs), used by some pest control companies for rodent control, are harming our Kiawah wildlife. When a bobcat ingests a rat that has been poisoned, the poison can build up and eventually kill the bobcat as well. Five years ago, Kiawah’s bobcat population was almost wiped out. Pest control companies were implored to stop using SGAs on Kiawah, and it worked. Our wildlife rebounded. This year, the issue has resurfaced.

It’s time to call your pest control provider (again). If they use SGAs (Brodifacoum, Bromadiolone, Difenacoum, Difethialone), ask them to stop. Encourage them to pledge that they won’t use them on Kiawah. Members and Kiawah entities who verify their provider isn’t using them are also encouraged to take the Bobcat Guardian pledge. The town will circulate a list of those who have pledged later this summer, so be sure to pledge by August 1.
