President Biden to Visit Kiawah Island Aug. 10-16

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden are scheduled to enjoy a vacation on Kiawah Island from Wednesday, Aug. 10 through Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Due to the presidential visit, expect traffic delays and plan additional time for travel throughout the island from Aug. 10-16. For the duration of the visit, traffic will be stopped in both lanes when the presidential motorcade travels across the island. Additionally, Flyway Drive will be closed to through traffic. Those using Flyway Drive as a cut-through to the east end of the island will be turned around.

Increased security measures will be in place and members can expect to see military personnel, vehicles, marine assets and aircraft.

As always, personal drones are prohibited. The beach parking area off of Ocean Course Drive next to Fire Station #6 will be closed.

The president’s security team is in contact with all island entities to coordinate efforts in order to minimize the impact to the community during this presidential visit. However, please use patience when traffic interruptions occur and understand that, for security reasons, the timing of the president’s movements will not be communicated in advance.
