Post-Debby Island-wide Mosquito Abatement

Due to wet weather conditions following Tropical Storm Debby, Kiawah is seeing high mosquito counts in all island zones. Charleston County Mosquito Control will conduct mosquito abatement around the island via spray truck on Thursday, Aug. 15 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

You can reduce the number of mosquitos on your private property by eliminating standing water on your property as much as possible. Mosquito eggs hatch in standing water – an amount of water as small as a tablespoon can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

KICA’s Lakes Management Department monitors mosquito populations on a weekly basis during warm weather. Get a complete look at Kiawah’s mosquito abatement strategies here.
