Make the Most of Off-Leash Season on Kiawah

One of the best ways to bond with your pet is play time on the beach! Kiawah is fortunate that pets are allowed off-leash in certain areas and at certain times of the year. Make sure you sit and stay to check out the details below.

OFF-LEASH BUT UNDER CONTROL

  • While your pet is off-leash, make sure you keep a leash with you at all times. Your pet must be under voice control. Please leash your pet if asked by Beach Patrol or another beach-goer.
  • Remember to pick up after your pet and dispose of any waste in the trash cans located adjacent to most boardwalks.

OFF-LEASH PETS WELCOME

  • Nov. 1 – March 15 – off-leash hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. everywhere on the beach except in the Critical Habitat Areas.
  • Dog Use Area: Between the eastern boundary of the Beach Club and the Ocean Course Clubhouse allows dogs off-leash under control year-round from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

YEAR-ROUND REGULATIONS

  • Critical Habitat Areas are located at each end of the island. Dogs are not permitted in these areas any time of year. This helps keep wildlife who live and nest in these areas safe.

BE MINDFUL OF WILDLIFE

  • Wildlife doesn’t recognize boundaries. When you and your pet play, make sure you don’t disturb beach species, like shorebirds, no matter where you are on the beach.
