KICA Contemplates a Temporary Waiver of Cape Club Access Restrictions
In 2018, the Kiawah Island Community Association and Kiawah Partners (KP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (the “MOU”), which in summary, prevented a second access point to the island off of Beachwalker Drive and limited residential dwelling units at the new Cape and yet to be constructed Ocean Pines communities. Last year, construction on the Cape Club at The Cape was completed, but a Certificate of Occupancy was not issued due to alleged deficiencies in off-street parking. The town and KP recently came to a settlement agreement that will meet or exceed the parameters of the MOU. While the terms of the agreement are fulfilled by Kiawah Partners through additional road and parking construction, KP requested the KICA board approve a temporary waiver of access restrictions to accommodate operating procedures from March 1, 2025, through the completion of the agreement terms, anticipated in Q4 2025, that enable Club members, employees, and deliveries to access the Cape Club via a shuttle, to limit traffic. The KICA board is contemplating the request and seeks member feedback on the amendment proposal (below) by Wednesday, Feb. 19.
