Board Tweaks Sandcastle Access Policies After Data Review, Member Input
Each year, the Amenities Experience Committee, with staff input, evaluates the success of the previous year’s Sandcastle Access Policies and recommends changes as needed to the board of directors. Access policies are in place in KICA’s most limited amenities, like the Sandcastle gym and Oceanview Adult Pool, to prevent overcrowding and ensure member access.
KICA’s board requested member input on several minor proposed changes from Feb. 13 to March 3.(A summary of the feedback in charts is provided below.) Following a review of the feedback and discussion (view the board’s discussion), the board approved all the recommendations except lowering the gym age to 16. As no access was removed, the resolution takes effect immediately.

The 2025 changes include:
- Removing time-based access. In 2024, some regulations changed after 5 p.m., which was difficult for members to remember and for staff to enforce.
- Allow one accompanied guest per household per day in the gym. Previously, guests were only allowed in the gym after 5 p.m.
- In-season (Memorial Day through Labor Day) at the Oceanview Adult Pool:
- Members may bring 2 accompanied guests per household per day.
- No unaccompanied guests are permitted.
