Board to Vote on Covenant Amendments Following Additional Member Input

The Governance Task Force has been driving an effort to update and clarify pertinent sections of the KICA Covenants, which govern the core functions of the Kiawah Island Community Association.

Since April, four draft amendments have been meticulously refined with member input. Following the last round of feedback in October, a fifth amendment was added that affirms KICA members’ eligibility for board service. The task force is now providing the final amendments for review before a board vote on Monday, Nov. 18.

Five Amendments Expected to Go to a Community Vote

The amendments include eliminating the developer-appointed KICA board seat; expanding KICA’s authority to operate architectural review functions; clarifying the board’s authority relating to KICA’s Rules and Regulations; clarifying the eligibility for service on the board; and some basic administrative updates. In order for these amendments to be adopted, members must vote to approve them.

Next Steps

If approved by the board, the covenant amendments will be added to the winter ballot and voted on concurrently with the Annual Board of Directors Election. Members will vote online from  Jan. 13 through Feb. 13, 2025.
