Board Seeks Your Feedback on Overnight Trailered Boat Parking at Rhett’s Bluff

The Amenities Experience Committee is looking at ways to optimize current amenities and plan for the future. At KICA’s February board meeting, Cherie Gallagher directed a board discussion (watch the discussion) on the addition of potential short-term overnight trailered boat parking at Rhett’s Bluff Boat Launch.

The proposed parking area would be adjacent to the entrance, in what is now a gravel area of the lot. The committee’s proposal includes spaces for 8-12 boats on trailers to be parked overnight. The spaces could be reserved for up to a maximum of a week or 10 days (to be determined), and would be available to members only. This use would be a slight expansion of the current usage, which does not allow overnight parking in the lot.

At the meeting, Cherie noted that approximately 1,600 members live in villas or cottages on the island, and have no parking location with vegetative screening, an ARB requirement to park a boat. The Amenities Experience Committee recommended this addition to the amenity after hearing about inquiries received from members by staff at the Sandcastle. “Everyone uses this island differently,” Cherie noted. The short-term parking is intended as a way to optimize amenities for different segments of users.
