Berkeley Electric Power Outage
The notice below is on behalf of Berkeley Electric:
System Control reported at 7:55 a.m. an outage affecting more than 5,000 members in the Kiawah area. Crews determined by 9 a.m. the outage is because of an overload and not damage to the Seabrook substation. Seabrook’s transformer #2 was energized by 9:20 a.m., and sections of service will be restored as loading allows.
The overload on the Seabrook sub was caused by the shifting load from the Legareville Substation, which is out of service as it is being upgraded. This upgrade was initially set to be completed this past fall, but the project has met with delays beyond our control. Once completed, however, the Legareville sub will have twice its original capacity.
JI District Line Superintendent was in communication with Kiawah officials as crews continue to work. For more information, visit kiawahisland.org.
