2025 Road Paving Project Gets Underway in Q2
Maintaining the island’s roadways to Kiawah’s higher standards is one of the associations primary responsibilities, and one of its largest financial investments. KICA’s project to mill and replace 25 neighborhood roads is expected to start March 31 and be completed in May of 2025. The work will be focused primarily in the island’s Vanderhorst community.
The following roads are scheduled for milling and replacement, as of Wednesday, April 9:
Most of Kiawah Island’s roads inside the Main Gate are owned and maintained by the community association. Roads are comprehensively evaluated and rated every two years by outside engineers. All roads below the engineering standard of “good” are slated for milling and replacement, and the work is ongoing.
During the repaving, roads will remain open and accessible, but members can expect brief traffic delays. All roadwork will occur during standard island construction hours of Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturdays (if necessary), 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Detailed communications will be shared with members on the roads above once the paving schedule has been finalized.
prepare for road paving
If your road is scheduled for milling and replacement, we ask that you help the process go smoothly by preparing. KICA will provide a direct notification to affected property owners approximately two weeks before your phase of paving begins.
Please prepare your property:
- Prune any landscape material overhanging the asphalt in advance of your pave date to avoid damage from the milling machine. If you do not prune, you are assuming the risk of damage and/or you are authorizing KICA to execute essential pruning.
- Turn off any roadside irrigation systems on the day of treatment. It is advised that you have your landscape/irrigation contractor mark all existing irrigation located within KICA’s roadside right-of-way to avoid possible damage during construction.
- Park all vehicles in the driveway, as opposed to on the street. Street parking will not be permitted on the day of the work. Vehicles in violation may be towed.
Please expect some traffic delays and plan accordingly:
- Allot extra time to navigate through your neighborhood. Drive 5 mph in the construction zone.
- Limit large deliveries coming to your home.
- If you have a service provider or contractor scheduled to work on your property during construction, please ensure their work does not interfere with the paving and that their vehicles and equipment are parked away from the road.
- Garbage and recycling collection may be impacted. KICA is coordinating with the Town of Kiawah Island to attempt to minimize disruption to services.
