Our World, one hour lecture series presents DR. TONYA MATTHEWS, CEO International African American Museum, set to open in downtown Charleston in early Spring 2022, the new Museum is constructed on the site of Gadsden’s Wharf, the arrival point for more than 50 percent of all enslaved Africans brought to North America. Newly appointed to head the Museum, Dr. Matthews is both a poet and an engineer who has devoted much of her career to community service and leadership in the educational and African American Community.
The dedication of the new Museum will focus national and international attention on Charleston and its history. Join Dr. Matthews to hear the story of the Museum and how it will honor Charleston’s past and support its future.
