Our World – Samantha Siegel, Angel Oak Preserve Director

Those of us on Kiawah are well aware of the many efforts around Charleston to preserve the resources and beauty of our land. One such organization that works tirelessly toward this goal is the Lowcountry Land Trust.
Today we have a staff member of that organization with us to discuss a project not only near to our hearts but also near to our own backyard. Samantha Siegel, Angel Oak Preserve Director will tell her story of how she single handedly, and with the help of other environmental organizations around Charleston, saved Angel Oak, both the tree AND the valuable parcel of land it occupies, from the chains saws. Without actually chaining herself to the tree, she managed against all odds to literally ‘fight city hall’ and be selected to lead the project through to completion.
Samantha will also tell us how we can have input into the form this new project might take so that we can enjoy it ourselves and take our family and visitors to experience it.
