Our World – Carving her Niche: The Art of Mary May

Our World, in conjunction with Arts Etc., hosts Mary May, a professional woodcarver who creates beautiful designs and runs an online woodcarving school all from her River Road studio.

Woodcarving has been Mary’s joy and passion since 1991 and she never tires of discovering new shapes in wood. The beauty of woodcarving first captured her heart while traveling through Europe and exploring grand cathedrals, gilded palaces and stately mansions. She also learned to carve stone, creating classically-carved church furniture, fireplace mantels, period furniture reproductions, antique repair and sculptures. In 2012, she began her online school.

Mary May is charming, extremely articulate, and a pleasure to listen to and watch. You will have the pleasure of watching Mary at work, while listening to her talk about her woodcarving profession and sipping a glass of wine. RSVP to sandcastle@kica.us or 843-768-3875 to attend.

Mary May will be a visiting artist at the Gibbes Museum of Art Feb. 6-17, 2018.
