International Trade: To Protect or Not Protect?
The topic of international trade and more specifically free trade has been on the news quite a bit since even before the last presidential election. Why is this topic so contentious? What are the benefits and costs of free trade? This talk will answer these questions and delve into the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the US withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP).
Dr. Beatriz Maldonado is an Assistant Professor of Economics and International Studies at the College of Charleston. She studied at the University of Oklahoma where she received her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. in Economics. She lives in Charleston with her husband, Max Kovalov, who teaches political science and international studies at the College of Charleston.
