Backpack Buddies Chili Cook-Off

Saturday, Mar 16, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The fifth annual chili cook off benefiting the Backpack Buddies program, run by the Kiawah Women’s Foundation and Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island, will take place on Saturday, March 16 from 1-4 p.m. at Bohicket Marina.

Sample the best chili on the Sea Islands as local businesses compete to be crowned winner. Tickets are $10 for the tasting. Get them in advance at the Ice Cream Boat or at the event.

The Backpack Buddies program supplies food to 450 “at-risk” children, who receive weekly packs of healthy, shelf-stable foods that the children can take home and prepare on their own. The program is offered at Mt. Zion Elementary, Angel Oak Elementary,  Frierson Elementary,  Haut Gap Middle School and St. Johns High School.

This year, the following companies have generously committed to match up to $1,000 in donations each, totaling a match of $15,000 in donations to Backpack Buddies:  These donors include:  Island Transportation Services, CFS Promotional Products, Coastal Getaways of SC, Emery Macpherson–Akers Elllis Real Estate, Fipps and Sons Garage, Holy City Construction, Kiawah Cares, Kiawah Partners–Townsend and Stephanie Clarkson, NV Realty Group, Pam Harrington Exclusives, Pelican Development, S.
