Monday, Aug. 21 | Sandcastle | 1 – 4 p.m.
In the dark about where to watch the upcoming total solar eclipse? Come out to the Sandcastle for an Eclipse Viewing Party.
This fun gathering will be jointly hosted by the Kiawah Conservancy and KICA. In compliance with the fire code, only 180 people can be upstairs at any one time. The conservancy will monitor this number so everyone has the opportunity to have cookies and lemonade while enjoying the air conditioning. The real party will be in the sky outside. We encourage you to bring a chair or blanket to witness the eclipse outdoors.
We are expecting a very large crowd to enjoy this once in a lifetime event.
Please plan to be at the Sandcastle by at least 2 p.m. Members are encouraged to walk, ride bikes or carpool. Those who drive are asked to drop their passengers off at the Sandcastle and park in the overflow lot, just before Freshfields Village on the left as you exit the island. KICA shuttles will run from 12 – 4 p.m.
The Castle Grille will offer a buffet only, featuring housemade pulled pork sliders, crispy fried chicken tenders, crab cakes, as well as delicious sides and kitschy eclipse treats – all for $15 plus tax and gratuity ($10 for kids under 10). Beer, wine and the signature eclipse cocktail will be available for purchase. The Sandbar will be serving its menu of specialty cocktails, frozen daiquiris and more! Buffet will be open from 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Complimentary eclipse viewing glasses will be available, while supplies last. There will be live streaming of the NASA EDGE Megacast, (depending on availability of internet service to the island) which will track the eclipse as it moves across the country. Games poolside.
